President M7 gives part of Naguru land to Uganda Heart Institute

By Kabuye Ronald

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed the chairperson of Uganda Land Commission Hon. Beatrice Nyakaisiki to allocate 10 acres of Nakawa Naguru land to Uganda Heart Institute.

According to president Museveni’s letter dated the 14th of October, 2020, the 10 acres will be used by the Uganda Heart Institute to set up a cardiac centre of excellence which will have a 250 bed hospital.

He also directed the ministry of finance to look for funding for the project.

President Museveni also wondered why the commission could not see the need for setting up such a specialized medical facility that will save Ugandans a lot of money when the commission first rejected the heart institute request.

“I am informed that Uganda Heart Institute had earlier applied for part of Nakawa Naguru land but with no success. One wonders why the commission could not see the need for such a specialized medical facility which would save Ugandans from seeking for expensive treatment abroad” reads part of the letter.

The same letter was also copied to the Hon. Minister of lands, housing and urban developments, Hon. Minister for Finance, Planning and economic development , Hon. Minister of health, permanent secretary and secretary to the treasury and the director Uganda Heart Institute.

The heart institute has been only housed at Mulago national referral hospital
