Security led by the Uganda People’ Defense Forces (UPDF) military Police have on Wednesday afternoon battered several journalists and left them with physical wounds at the United Nations Office of the High commissioner in Kololo, prince Charles drive road.
The battered journalists include Irene Abalo (Daily Monitor), John Cliff Wamala (NTV), Timothy Murungi (New Vision), Henry Ssekanjako (New Vision), Joseph Sabiti (NBD TV), Kitimbo Timothy (NBS TV) Josephine Namakumbi (NBS TV), Andrew Mugonza (Whisper eye), Shamim Nabakooza (Record TV) among others had gone to cover National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine deliver a petition UNHRC offices in regards to the rampant human rights violations in the country that include torture and abductions of his supporters.
Meanwhile the journalists umbrella body Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) has come out and condemned the beastly actions of the security organs against journalists and the general public.
UJA Spokesperson Kabuye Ronald has said soon the association will come out with a way forward to put a stop to inhumane actions of the security personals.
He added that for now they are trying to fully follow up the matter and find applicable legal actions.
