Tanzania president John Pombe Magufuli, 61 years of age on Wednesday evening succumbed to heart failure in De Es Salaam hospital.
The news of his death has been confirmed by the country’s vice president Samia Suluhu Hassan,
“It is with deep regret that I inform you that today… we lost our brave leader, the president of the Republic of Tanzania, John Pombe Magufuli,” Vice-President Hassan said in the announcement.
According to Samia Suluhu Hassan, the country will go into mourning to commemorate the life of Magufuli.
It has been rumored since February that Magufuli contracted COVID-19 but government Officials earlier refuted the rumors
Magufuli was one of Africa’s most prominent coronavirus skeptics, and called for prayers and herbal-infused steam therapy to counter the virus.
