We shall meet in court, Capt. Babu to NRM SG Lumumba

By Hannah Marion Namukasa

Former minister and National Resistance Movement (NRM) senior member Captain Edward Francis Babu has responded to news doing round in the media that the NRM secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba wants him to publicly apologize to her for asserting that she sponsored opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) candidates against NRM party candidates.

According to the letter written to both NBS TV and Capt. Babu, Lumumba’s lawyers of Anguria and Co. Advocates, Lumumba argues that while appearing on NBS TV Barometer talk show this Tuesday, he made false, defamatory, malicious statement designed to irritate her, inflame public anger and resentment towards her.

In a telephone interview with Captain Babu, he denied knowledge of the said letter before adding that if it’s true they will meet in court.

“I have not received any court summons yet but if it’s true we shall meet in court. I will not be intimidated because there is nothing to apologize for since it was done and the facts are very clear.” Said Capt. Babu

Part of the letter written by Lumumba’s Lawyers read “in the course of your deliberation on the said talk show, you claimed without offering evidence to your audience of thousands of viewers across the world, that the secretary general offered support to the opposition party, National Unity Platform (NUP) and sponsored some of their party’s candidates against her own party’s flag bearers”

“In sum, you reduced our client to a punching bag and directed, through obvious innuendo, NRM members who lost in the last elections to her door step as the cause of their political misfortunes, essentially eroding her leadership qualities and integrity”
