The Monday Morning strong wind, heavy rains and hailstorm has destroyed over 17 houses and several acres of crops in Kisoro, Kibaale, Kagadi & Kakumiro.
According to the Redcross spokesperson Irene Nakasiita In Kibaale, rain lasted for over 6 hours and left many families with adverse effects.

From the Uganda Redcross emergency response team (community fast responders), Over 200 households are affected.
“17 houses are totally destroyed in Kyakazihire Subcounty, Kibaale district. Acres of food crops destroyed in Musezero village, Nyundo Sub-County, in Kisoro district.
Continued rains and associated risks, Other parts of Kisoro, Kagadi, Kibaale and Kakumiro districts are at risk since heavy rains continue as per predictions from our mapping, Early Warning system in coordination with the Uganda Meteorology Centre.” reads Nakasiita communique.
Redcross says that Communities with destroyed food crops are at high risk of food insecurity and hunger in the near future thus urging Development Partners and Government to support the affected communities with relief food and nonfood items to allow them develop coping mechanisms.

It has further advised “WASH (Water, Hygiene & Sanitation) needs to be addressed to mitigate disease outbreaks. This should take care of needs such as Open and broken water sources, latrines, dumping grounds and all fecal sludge management elements.
Displacement; some families whose houses are completely destroyed are being housed by close relatives within the communities. However, the District Disaster Management Committees are activated to handle emerging issues at district level in close coordination with Redcross and OPM.” further read the communique
