The Orthodox Church in Uganda has welcomed their pope and Patriarch His Bearitude Pope Theodore II, the patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa.
The pope and Patriarchal entourage arrived at 1:50pm aboard Ethiopian Airline has been welcomed by a delegation of Orthodox Church Hierarchs, Clergy and lay leaders lead by the His eminence Archbishop Makarios Tillyrides of Nairobi who is as well the care taker of Kampala and All Uganda and the Bishop of Gulu and Eastern Uganda the Rt. Rev. Slivestros Kisitu while the government chief whip Thomas Tayebwa represented the government.

According to the Orthodox Bishop of Gulu and Eastern Uganda the Rt. Rev. Slivestros Kisitu, the cardinal purpose of Pope Theodore’s visit is gracing the memorial mass for the late. Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga, which is scheduled for Sunday, October 17th, at St. Nicolas, Cathedral Namugoona, Rubaga Division Kampala.
It should be noted that 17th, October marks the 40 days since the passing on of the Archbishop of Kampala and All Uganda Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga. In the tradition orthodox church when a person dies they organize a memorial mass after 40 days.

The Pope is also expected among other things to visit the president of Uganda His excellence Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at state house Entebbe on Tuesday 12th, October. He will also visit various Orthodox dioceses including in Wakiso, Luwero, Namutumba, Jinja city, Buikwe, Gulu city among others
