The presiding Bishop for the Evangelical Orthodox Church (EOC) Jacinto Kibuuka has urged churches and the public at large to always support women, women groups and their initiative in order to accelerate sustainable development and life.
Bishop Kibuuka made the remarks as the EOC church in Uganda was celebrating Women’s Day and launching the women’s SACCO dubbed Janda Mamre Women’s SACCO at Mamre international Prayer Centre in Janda, Namugongo, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
Bishop Kibuuka said that Women are very instrumental in promoting, sustaining and executing God’s work since the days of Jesus Christ to date thus their empowerment brings about greater development of the church and Country at large.
He said that the group will enable women in the church to save their money and use it to establish sustainable projects that will strengthen and develop their family, church and the country since most of the responsibilities are done by women especially in the family.
“Development starts with women, this is well stipulated in Bible Luke 8:1-3, you can never have progressive and sustainable development without women involved. So brethren’s lets not leave the women behind in our churches, homes, projects and the country at large because they are committed, trustworthy and responsible.” Said Kibuuka
He however, cautioned them against Rumormongering saying it’s their greatest weakness that has always led to their downfall
Mary Kyomugisha Onoria, the chairperson of Janda Mamre Women’s SACCO said that the main objective of the SACCO is women’s development through saving, lending and establishment of sustainable development projects both at individual and group level thus uplifting their wellbeing and welfare.
Kyomugisha revealed that their first project is going to be piggery farming adding onto the 30 piglets given to them by Bishop Kibuuka and later on their will be training women in tailoring, arts and crafts, beverage making among others.
Christine Kajumba, the chairperson of the Evangelical Orthodox Church organizing committee rallied women to always support each other in all ways possible and to always widely consult from progressive people instead of getting envious of them.
She also urged women to embrace and utilize government and other developmental projects like Emyooga, Parish Development Model, and Women’s Sacco among others.
Furthermore, she called upon women to take up leadership positions and opportunities.
