Top physical planning official arrested over bribery

By Jumah Kakomo

The National Physical Planning Board has apprehended Iganga Municipal Council Physical Planner red handed with a 3.5 million bribe.

The incident happened at the Board Chairperson’s office at Crested Towers Offices in Kampala.

Constantino Wandira and other unidentified members of the Municipal Council, had solicited the resources for the Board Committee to end investigations into an on-going saga of encroachment on a public space in the Centre of Iganga Municipality.

David Womai, the acting Executive Director and Dr. Amanda Ngabirano the Board Chairperson addressed the media upon Wandira’s arrest.

“This makes the physical planning process very expensive if an officer can come to bribe the chairman of the board! What do you expect a developer to be going through thats why we see people failing to comply with the procedures they must go through because there is room for corruption and bribery which is absolutely unacceptable” said Ngabirano

We have seen developments taking place at night and when inquired we found that responsible officers seemed to have abandoned their functions. The surprise is that they were trying to bribe the board to allow the physical developments to go on” said Womai

However, when asked about the allegations Wandira declined to comment.
