Former Uganda cranes midfielder Tonny Mawejje hunts for Shs200m to set up a soccer academy

Former Uganda cranes midfielder Tony Mawejje is set to hold his testimonial football matches as the curtains on his career come to an end.

Nicknamed the General, Mawejje who has a career spanning over 15 years in competitive football will hold his testimonials on the 14th September at the MTN Omondi stadium Lugogo Kampala and on the 16th of September 2022, at the Masaka Recreational grounds Masaka at his home district.

As already mentioned above, the first testimonial Tony Mawejje football Match of 14th September at MTN Omondi stadium Lugogo Kampala, the entrance fee is Shs20k for ordinary and Shs50k for VIP, whereas the second match of Masaka recreational grounds on 16th September, the entrance fee is Shs10k for all.

Both Matches are aiming at raising Shs200m to set up an academic named ” TM6 BOX 2 BOX midfielder soccer academy”

“The time has finally come for me to say goodbye to my dear fans who have supported me from when I started my career. I thought the only way I would thank them was to organize a testimonial and here we are”  Mawejje said.

He adds that, he also wants to use funds from his testimonial to commence an international academy which will strictly be a midfielder academy.

“I want to be the go to be person when it comes to midfielders” he added.

The Tony Mawejje testimonials will see the AFCON 2017 squad face against the current Uganda Cranes team.

Mawejje has revealed that due to his experience in midfield department, he has also chosen his academy to be a hub of midfielders at first as it expands. The academy will be based at both Kampala and Masaka if all goes well.

Brief about Tony Mawejje

Born on 15th December 1986, Mawejje started out at Masaka Local Council before he joined KCCA FC. He then moved to police FC and later URA FC then he joined professional ranks turning out for IBV (Iceland), Golden Arrows (South Africa), IBV Agusand (Norway), Valur (Iceland), Throttur (Iceland),  FK Tirana (Albanian) and Al Arabi (Kuwait).
