Police at Old Kampala have arrested a rejected husband and his accomplice in connection with a deadly arson attack that occurred in Kasubi, resulting in the death of a woman and leaving another person seriously injured. The two suspects, identified as Ssenfuka James and Mpanga Wilberforce, are accused of setting fire to the house of Kiwanuka Charles, targeting him and his lover, Juliet, who tragically lost her life in the incident.

The arson attack took place last week in Bugema Zone, Kasubi, within the Lubaga Division. Police investigations revealed that Ssenfuka, who had separated from Juliet, along with Mpanga, used a five-litre jerrican to transport petrol, which they then used to set fire to the house while the victims were inside.
According to police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, the fire was the result of a failed romantic relationship. “The incident was driven by the bitterness of a broken love affair. Ssenfuka James, having separated with Juliet, conspired with Mpanga Wilberforce to set the house of Kiwanuka Charles on fire,” Rusoke explained.

The fire led to the tragic death of 35-year-old Juliet, while Kiwanuka Charles sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Kiruddu Hospital. Fire and rescue services responded promptly to the scene, but by the time they arrived, the community had already managed to rescue the victims. Unfortunately, Juliet could not survive the flames.
The body of the deceased has been transported to the City Mortuary in Mulago for a post-mortem examination. Police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be presented in court once the investigation is completed.
The arrest of Ssenfuka and Mpanga has sparked further concern over the dangers of domestic disputes escalating into violence. Authorities are urging the public to resolve conflicts peacefully and seek help before matters escalate to such tragic outcomes.
