Security personnel at Kisenyi Bus Terminal in Kampala have arrested a 40-year-old man, Tumwine David alias Busoni, for the unlawful possession of firearms, ammunition, and other dangerous items. The suspect, a resident of Mubuteraniro Village in Mubende District, was found carrying a submachine gun (SMG), 24 live rounds of ammunition, two magazines, three pangas, ropes, and a 1-liter bottle of petrol.

The arrest took place this morning during routine security checks at the busy Kisenyi terminal in Kampala Central Division. According to Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, Tumwine, who was carrying two bags, was stopped for inspection. However, he attempted to flee the scene, abandoning his belongings in the process.
Quick-thinking security personnel at the terminal immediately gave chase and apprehended the suspect. Upon searching his bags, they discovered the weapons and other items, prompting them to contact the police. Tumwine is currently being held at Old Kampala Police Station for further questioning.

Initial investigations indicate that Tumwine had been traveling from Kyotera District and was en route to Busia. Police are working to determine the origin of the firearms and the suspect’s possible intentions.
“While we continue to investigate, we commend the vigilance and professionalism of the Kisenyi terminal security team. Their swift action has likely prevented a potential criminal act,” said Owoyesigyire.
