Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union General Secretary Annet Birungi has reaffirmed the commitment to request the Government for an increase of 4% on their salaries.

In an exclusive interview with Trusted News, stresses that this is the only way to motivate the nurses who are at the front of the health care systems in the country.
“We are demanding an increase of 4% this year. This is because the previous increment was eaten up by the taxes on our salaries. The 4% increase will cater for all those gaps,Annet reiterated”.
Annet Birungi, who is set to contest for Workers’ Member Of Parliament next year believes that, this year will provide a yardstick for the union to demand more from the Government.

Other Key pointers earmarked by UNMU include among others; lobbying Government for the construction of the specialized University, Negotiations for the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Support for the Boy Child, Training of Nurses in Critical Care and full sensitization of Nurses and Midwives in joining the Union.
The Union is much determined to address the increasing number of nurses and midwives graduating every year. In this, an arrangement is needed with the Government, which is a key stakeholder in recruitment. The key element is for the entity to lift the ban on nurses going abroad.
