A 25-year-old man was shot dead during a foiled robbery attempt at two Forte Bet sports betting companies in Nateete Rubaga division.
It’s alleged that a group of six thugs armed with Pangas and Iron bars attacked the first Forte bet branch along Nateete Masaka road, making off with an unspecified amount of money. They then proceeded to another Forte bet branch at Nateete Business Center to rob more money.
According to Patrick Onyango Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, after the first robbery police were alerted and quickly dispatched a team to the scene. Upon spotting the police, the suspects attempted to flee, and one was shot at and others managed to escape.
He identified the deceased as Kayongo Bernard Nadumba a resident of Kitawuluzi, Mutundwe in suburbs of Kampala.
Onyango added that the deceased was shot to neutralize him and rushed him to Mulago referral hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The police have collected statements from witnesses and recovered a wallet and a bunch of keys from the scene as the Regional Flying Squad from KMP South is currently hunting for the remaining five suspects.
The body of the deceased has been conveyed to city mortuary Mulago for post-mortem as investigations are ongoing.
