Travellers were left stranded along the Kampala-Mityana highway in the early hours of this morning after a fuel tank caught fire near the Kiwawu Tea Estate in Mityana District. The incident, which occurred around dawn, has resulted in significant traffic disruption, blocking half of the road and leaving many motorists unable to continue their journey.

According to Michael Kananura, the Traffic and Road Safety Spokesperson, authorities are on the scene working to secure the area and manage traffic. The fire brigade and rescue services are also present, working tirelessly to extinguish the blaze and ensure the safety of all involved.
“We urge travellers to exercise patience and follow the instructions of traffic officers as they work to manage the situation,” Kananura said. “We will continue to provide updates on the status of the road until it is fully cleared.”

Kananura emphasized that the safety of the public remains the top priority and advised motorists to avoid the area until the fire is completely out and the road reopened.
“We ask for your cooperation in ensuring everyone’s safety during this time,” Kananura added.
