Canon Rev. Emmanuel Ssewanyana Installed as New Archdeacon of Entebbe

By Namuli N Racheal

Canon Rev. Emmanuel Kenneth Ssewanyana has officially been installed as the new Archdeacon of Entebbe, replacing Canon Gitta Kavuma.

Hundreds of Christians gathered at St. Mark Namate to witness the installation ceremony, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Entebbe Archdeaconry.

The move comes after a significant reshuffling within the diocese in October of the previous year, led by the Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, Moses Banja, who carried out extensive changes.

The ceremony began with a band procession around Entebbe, setting a celebratory tone for the occasion.

While consecrating the new Archdeacon, Bishop Moses Banja emphasized the importance of staying clear of partisan politics, urging Rev. Ssewanyana to focus solely on serving the people of Entebbe and not on personal ambitions. “In the church, it is about serving God and His people, not personal gain,” Banja remarked.

This installation coincides with the transfer of Rev. Gitta Kavuma to Kazo Archdeaconry.

As part of his new role, Rev. Canon Emmanuel Kenneth Ssewanyana was presented with a car by the Entebbe Archdeaconry to aid in his pastoral duties and movements.
