Minister Otafiire Orders Crime Intelligence Officers to Stop Arresting Suspects

The Minister of Internal affairs Rtd Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire has ordered police officers attached to Criminal Intelligence to stop arresting people because it’s not their mandate.

Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire made the remarks while officiating the ground breaking ceremony for the 7th floor construction of CID data analysis Center at CID headquarters Kibuli suburbs of Kampala.

The joking mood Gen Otafiire wondered about crime intelligence operatives (C I) arresting people on streets.

“Crime intelligence is intelligence for police not carrying arresting, arresting work is for criminal investigation department (CID) if you want to arrest, please join the CID’s.” Say minister otafire.

He warned them to stop habits of arresting Ugandans with immediate effect.

Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire has also warned police officers against doing things which are against their mandate like killing suspects which tarnishes the name of the institution 

He warned the officers not to commit crime in the names of enforcing the law, the work of police is to apprehend those who offend the law and bring them to courts of law

” Don’t shoot criminals on the streets because thieves all criminals have the right to appear before courts of law , so if you kill a criminal what will the judge do?”, wondered otafire.

At the same ceremony the inspector General of police Abbas Byakagaba noted that their committed at finishing the project within the next 12 years because they agreed to fund the directorate of Engineering and logistics 

AIGP Tom Magambo the director CID noted that they have started conducting refresher training for regional and district criminal Investigation officers because some have become retardant.

On his part AIGP Apora James the director of logistics and Engineering noted that they have assembled Engineers from their directorate who are going to do whatever it takes to have the project done in the period of one year.

He adds that the ground breaking and foundation of the 7th floor building will cost approximately 6 billion shillings.
