Popular Ugandan singer Alien Skin, real name Patrick Mulwana, and his bodyguards narrowly escaped an angry mob during belated Women’s Day celebrations held yesterday at Iganga Municipal Council Primary School in Bukono Parish, Northern Division, Iganga District.

The colorful event, graced by Uganda’s Prime Minister Hon. Robina Nabanja as the chief guest, began with performances from various women’s groups, who sang and danced in celebration.
After delivering her keynote address, Hon. Nabanja left the stage, paving the way for Alien Skin to entertain the excited crowd. However, chaos erupted when he performed his hit song “Sitya Danger.” According to eyewitnesses, a man from the audience attempted to approach the stage to greet the artist but was stopped and allegedly assaulted by Alien Skin’s bodyguards, commonly referred to as “kanyamas.” The man sustained a nose injury and began bleeding profusely.

The incident sparked outrage among some members of the crowd, who reacted violently. Despite efforts to flee the scene, Alien Skin and his entourage were chased by angry revellers who pelted stones, smashing and damaging the singer’s vehicles in addition to injuring the Alien Skin in the face.

Busoga East police spokesperson, Micheal Kafoyo, confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been launched. “Some of the kanyamas and members of the audience were injured during the scuffle. A case file has been opened at Iganga Police Station, and we are following leads to identify those responsible for the violence,” Kafoyo stated.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue into the violent disruption of what was meant to be a peaceful celebration.
