Police have confirmed that three people died and 30 others were injured in a fatal road accident that occurred around 5 p.m. at Makindu Village in Buikwe District.

According to Hellen Butoto, the Police Spokesperson for the Sezibwa region, the accident involved a Scania bus, registration number UAV 701C, belonging to the YY Coach Company. The bus was traveling from Katosi to Jinja along the Kisoga–Nyenga Road when the crash occurred.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver lost control while trying to avoid a motorcycle rider who had recklessly entered the road. The bus overturned and caught fire, leading to the deaths of three passengers who were burned beyond recognition.

Thirty other passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to various health facilities, including Kawolo Hospital, St. Francis Lwanga Hospital in Buikwe, and other nearby centers, where they are receiving medical attention.
Emergency services and police personnel responded promptly to the scene to extinguish the fire and recover the bodies.
“We have managed to retrieve three bodies that were burnt to ashes. Their remains have been taken to Kawolo Hospital for DNA testing and postmortem examinations before they are handed over to their relatives,” said Butoto.
