Police Investigate Fatal Factory Accident That Claimed Life in Mukono

By Robert Segawa

Mukono Division Police are investigating a case of suspected negligence following the death of Deebat Rogers, a 60-year-old machine operator at Poly Sack Factory in Kigunga, Mukono District.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred on the afternoon of September 8, 2025, at around 4:30 p.m., while Rogers was on duty. It is alleged that he was struck by a forklift within the factory premises. He was immediately rushed to the factory clinic for emergency treatment. As his condition worsened, he was transferred in a community ambulance (registration number UBB 754B) en route to Kibuli Hospital in Kampala.

However, while approaching Bweyogerere, Rogers’ condition deteriorated further, prompting the driver to divert to Gwatiiro Hospital for urgent care. Upon arrival, medical personnel found him unresponsive and later pronounced him dead.

The body was subsequently taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed that police officers had visited the scene and that investigations were underway. Authorities are working to obtain witness statements and review any available CCTV footage.

“We are also tracing the individual who was reportedly operating the forklift at the time of the incident to assist with our inquiries,” said Owoyesigyire. He urged the public to refrain from speculation while police conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Rogers’ death.

At this stage, police say there is no evidence to suggest the act was intentional.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late Deebat Rogers during this difficult time,” Owoyesigyire added.

He further called on factories and workplaces to reinforce safety measures to prevent such avoidable tragedies in the future.
