Violent Land Clash Erupts in Ntawo as Ham Mukasa Family Members Attacked

By Eric Yiga

A violent land dispute turned bloody in Ntawo, Mukono Central Division, after a group of assailants, allegedly led by a man identified only as Peter, launched a brutal attack on administrators overseeing land formerly owned by the late Ssekiboobo Ham Mukasa.

The victims, including Ham Mukasa Galabuzi and Fahad Mutumba, had gone to inspect and clear portions of the farmland when they were ambushed. According to witnesses, the attackers inflicted serious injuries and vandalized the Volvo vehicle the administrators were using.

Galabuzi, who was found bleeding heavily, later recorded a statement at Mukono Police Station before being referred to CPR Medical Center. Medical personnel there recommended specialized treatment due to the severity of his injuries.

Speaking to reporters, Galabuzi insisted that the land is legally owned by his family, inherited from his father, Peter Kasede, son of Ham Mukasa. He claimed there were no ongoing disputes over the property and attributed the violence to a blocked access road used by third parties for illegal sand mining.

Mutumba, who also sustained injuries, revealed that over UGX 17 million was stolen during the attack. He urged law enforcement to act swiftly, citing an existing court order that had previously halted all activity on the land. According to the family, they had intended to begin development work, including the construction of administrative offices.

Local residents voiced support for the Mukasa family, noting that the disputed land had become a hotspot for criminal activity and abuse, particularly targeting women. “Clearing this land is a step toward restoring safety in our community,” one resident said.

Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the incident and assured the public that investigations are ongoing. He called on all parties to remain calm and respect the legal process as the matter awaits court resolution.

Attempts to reach Ministry of Lands spokesperson Denis Obbo for comment were unsuccessful, as calls went unanswered.
