Museveni Vows to Revive Tea Prices, Boost Industrialization and Strengthen Wealth Creation in Kabarole and Fort Portal

By Jumah Kakomo and Kabuye Ronald

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party Presidential Candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has pledged to revive Uganda’s tea prices by supporting farmers to improve garden management practices and increasing financing to the sector.

He said his research into the fluctuating tea prices showed that poor-quality production by some farmers had affected Uganda’s competitiveness on the global market. Museveni promised to address these gaps to restore stability and profitability within the tea industry.

He made these remarks during the NRM presidential campaign rally held at Mukabura St. Leo College playgrounds in Fort Portal City.

Museveni further guided the people of Kabarole District and Fort Portal City to diversify into commercial enterprises outlined in the NRM manifesto, saying this is key for individuals and households to create wealth sustainably.

The NRM presidential candidate reaffirmed Uganda’s progress in industrialization as a strategic pathway to massive job creation and national prosperity. He cited industrial parks already established in Namanve, Kapeeka, Mbale, Mukono, and other regions as examples of government efforts to expand opportunities in manufacturing, services, commercial agriculture, and skilled work.

He also revealed that a new industrial park is planned for Kyaka in Kyegegwa District, expected to accelerate economic growth in the region.

Museveni directed authorities in Kabarole District to evaluate the cost of maintaining each kilometer of murram road, citing concerns over possible misuse of the annual UGX 1 billion allocated to each district for road maintenance. He expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of work by some district engineers and vowed to reassess district performance and investigate suspected corruption in road maintenance.

General Museveni urged leaders at all levels to embrace prioritization when planning government services to ensure efficient delivery.

He asked the electorate of Fort Portal City and Kabarole District to continue entrusting the NRM with national leadership, emphasizing that the party has ensured peace, stability, and steady socio-economic transformation.

Museveni highlighted the NRM’s role in building a stable foundation for Uganda through unity and defeating all threats to national peace and security. He assured citizens of his readiness to steward the country forward.

The NRM presidential candidate encouraged residents to fully utilize the ongoing development initiatives in their area to generate wealth at household and individual levels. He committed to expanding socioeconomic empowerment programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP), and Women Entrepreneurship Programme (WEP) to reach more categories of beneficiaries.

Museveni also explained the Four-Acre Model and other economic enterprises designed for both small and large landowners to improve productivity and household income.

He delivered these messages during the NRM presidential campaign rally at Mukabura St. Leo College playgrounds in Fort Portal City.
