The National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has launched his Tooro Sub-region campaign with a maiden rally at Kayombo Primary School Grounds in Kitagwenda District, where he applauded residents for what he described as their “aggressive adoption” of coffee farming. He promised that, if re-elected, his government would establish a coffee processing factory in the district to boost farmers’ incomes.

Gen. Museveni said he is committed to moving all households in Kitagwenda still living under subsistence conditions into the money economy, emphasizing that the NRM’s socio-economic empowerment programmes were designed to support that transition.

During the rally, he urged residents to embrace proper enterprise selection, noting that fitting the right enterprises to the local environment is essential for sustainable household wealth creation.

The NRM flag bearer reiterated several earlier pledges to the district and announced plans to tarmac the Kabujogera–Kamwenge and Kabujojera–Mahyoro–Kyambura roads in the next term, saying improved infrastructure remains a core government priority. He added that the NRM government has already made significant progress in the area’s road network, which he hopes to expand further.

Museveni also rallied local leaders to adopt prioritization in planning for development and assured them of continued service delivery improvements. He further revealed that he had approved the creation of an additional constituency in Kitagwenda District.

While explaining the NRM’s wealth-creation model, Gen. Museveni urged residents to differentiate between development—such as roads, schools, and health centres—and wealth creation, which depends on individual household enterprise participation. He encouraged beneficiaries of government socio-economic empowerment funds to use them effectively and highlighted the importance of skills training, especially for graduates of the Presidential Zonal Industrial Skilling Hubs.

The NRM candidate also commended Kitagwenda residents for what he termed their role in Uganda’s peace and security efforts.

In a notable moment at the rally, Mr. Bruhan Sserunga, a civilian veteran and father of presidential candidate Mubarak Munyagwa of the Common Man’s Party, publicly expressed support for Museveni’s re-election bid. Sserunga attributed his endorsement to the NRM government’s achievements, including veteran compensation programmes. Museveni acknowledged Sserunga’s gesture during the event.

NRM Second National Vice Chairperson Anita Among outlined several development projects for Kitagwenda under the National Development Plan, urging residents to extend the NRM’s mandate for continued transformation.

Kitagwenda District NRM Chairperson Nathan Musana presented the district status report, highlighting local priorities and ongoing development needs.
