Museveni Urges Bukonzo to Reject Sectarianism, Vows Peace, Jobs and Accelerated Development

By Jumah Kakomo and Kabuye Ronald

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has called on residents of Kasese District to reject sectarian politics, uphold peace, and promote unity as a foundation for sustained development and socio-economic transformation.

Addressing a campaign rally at Kisinga Town Council playgrounds in Bukonzo County East, Museveni said past insecurity in Kasese had significantly hindered development until the NRM government restored peace through inclusive politics and unity. He urged voters to re-elect him as president and support all NRM flag bearers in the forthcoming general elections to consolidate and expand development gains.

Museveni assured residents of lasting peace, confirming the defeat of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. He emphasized that improved regional security would guarantee uninterrupted development and economic progress in Kasese.

The NRM presidential candidate outlined a three-sector development strategy aimed at boosting wealth and job creation in the district. The priority sectors include tourism—through increased investment in wildlife conservation and mountaineering—commercial agriculture, and industrialization. He noted that Kasese possesses immense potential in these areas, already demonstrated by ongoing government investments.

Museveni also pledged to expand youth skilling initiatives in the district and announced plans to roll out large-scale irrigation schemes to boost agricultural productivity. He guided residents on wealth and job creation strategies anchored in commercial agriculture, manufacturing, and skills development.

During the rally, hundreds of supporters from the National Unity Platform (NUP) and the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Bukonzo County East defected to the ruling NRM party, pledging their allegiance going forward. Museveni urged NRM members in the area to warmly embrace the new converts.

NRM Vice Chairperson for the Western Region, Jorna d Asiimwe, called for the establishment of an industrial park in Kasese District alongside other key development interventions. Meanwhile, the NRM Chairperson for Kasese District, Ambassador James Mbahimba, presented the district memorandum highlighting local priorities and development needs.

Museveni concluded by appealing to the people of Kasese to vote NRM in the upcoming elections to safeguard peace and accelerate socio-economic transformation across the district.
