Arinda Nicholas Charged with Forging Presidential Letter, Defrauding UGX 20 Million

By Angel Lubowa

The Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court has charged Arinda Nicholas with forgery, uttering a false document, and obtaining money by false pretence.

Arinda denied all the charges and was remanded until March 9, 2026.

Court heard that Arinda, together with another suspect still at large, allegedly fraudulently created a false document—an appointment letter dated December 4, 2024 (Ref: PO/23)—purporting to appoint Mr. Nagwomu Alfred as Managing Director of the Uganda Railways Corporation (URC).

The letter was allegedly forged and falsely presented as having been signed by H.E. the President of Uganda.

Prosecution further told court that the accused extorted over UGX 20 million from Mr. Nagwomu, claiming the money would facilitate the appointment.

Arinda was arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) in collaboration with the Uganda Police Force and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
