Three Panga-Wielding Robbery Suspects Arrested After Breaking Into Businessman’s Home

By Robert Segawa

Police in Entebbe Division, Wakiso District, have arrested three suspects who were allegedly armed with pangas and broke into the home of a businessman in the early hours of Monday morning.

The incident occurred at around 3:00 a.m. in Kabale B Ward, Katabi Town Council, when the suspects reportedly broke into the residence of Patrick Kagenda Amooti (63). They allegedly robbed him and his father, Prof. Charles Kagenda Atwooki, of Shs570,000 and a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.

The suspects have been identified as Sekitoleko Acram, Oluka Robert, and Mbazira Bashir. Police recovered the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Shs240,000, part of the stolen money.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the victims raised an alarm that attracted neighbours and police officers, who quickly responded and surrounded the home.

During a search of the premises, the three suspects were discovered hiding in the ceiling of the house. They were found with a machete, house-breaking implements, and a torch.

Police fired teargas to force the suspects out of the ceiling before arresting them with the help of community members. The operation was carried out by officers from Katabi Police Station.

The suspects are currently detained at Entebbe Division Police Station.

“We commend the community for their cooperation, which greatly contributed to the arrest of these habitual suspects,” Owoyesigyire said.

Police say the suspects will be charged with aggravated robbery as investigations continue.
