Police in Busoga East have launched night operations targeting suspected criminal elements within the boda boda sector in Iganga District.
According to the regional police spokesperson, Michael Kasadha, at least 65 motorcycles were impounded during a single night operation, and a screening process is currently underway. He urged all night-shift boda boda operators to carry proper identification for their own safety.
“As police, we have launched operations against wrong elements within the boda boda business. This follows several complaints from their leaders and rising cases of robbery. We advise operators to register with their stages and have proper identification to distinguish them from masqueraders,” Kasadha said.

Police have also cautioned boda boda riders working at night to clearly identify themselves and report any suspicious individuals hiding within their trade.
While many members of the public have welcomed the ongoing operations, concerns have been raised about alleged brutality by security personnel during enforcement.
“Operations should not result in harm to innocent civilians. In the process, many people are injured. Men in uniform should stop this because it creates fear among night business operators,” said Charles Kalobozi, a resident.
Some boda boda operators, however, have expressed support for the crackdown. Abbey Hakim, a rider at Haled Stage, said the operations are beneficial to legitimate operators.
“Some wrong elements occupy stages at night without any identification. They don’t pay stage fees, and no one knows them. When such operations are carried out, it helps protect us and the public,” Hakim explained.
Police have called on owners of the confiscated motorcycles to present valid documentation to verify ownership and their involvement in the boda boda business.
Kasadha also warned the public against using unidentified riders, especially at night, noting that some may be involved in criminal activities.
