Thousands of Christians gathered at the Spiritual Formation Centre in Namugongo, Kira Municipality, to take part in the annual Way of the Cross procession.
Earlier on Good Friday, groups of worshippers trekked through the streets of Kira Municipality under intense heat, many carrying small wooden crosses in remembrance of Jesus Christ. The procession, accompanied by police officers, caused traffic to slow along routes leading to Namugongo Shrine, where the faithful later assembled for a major Mass.

While preaching to the congregation, Rev. Fr. Vincent Lubega, Rector and Parish Priest of Uganda Martyrs Catholic Shrine, emphasized the significance of Good Friday. He reminded Christians of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and highlighted the enduring power of truth, love, and peace as reflected in the Way of the Cross.
Fr. Lubega noted that Jesus died for the sins of humanity and urged believers to strengthen their faith, saying it can help heal the country from corruption, violence, and division. He encouraged Christians to carry the message of the Cross into their daily lives.
The event also attracted politicians, cultural leaders, and other dignitaries from various sectors, underscoring its national significance.
