Mbale SS Sends 16 Students to Public Universities in Impressive Academic Triumph

Mbale Secondary School (Mbale SS) has once again reaffirmed its academic strength, with 16 students earning admission to public universities across Uganda for the 2026/2027 academic year.

This milestone follows the school’s impressive performance in the 2025 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations, where several candidates scored highly, qualifying for government sponsorship under the national merit system.

Among the standout students pursuing science-related courses are: Aisha Namutosi (Medicine and Surgery), Gidudu Innocent (Radiography), Nandera Gloria (Veterinary Medicine), Shipoko Abdallah (Valuation), Magomu Trevor (Physical Education), Kalugala Kadili (Physical Education), and Amano Franklin (Biomedical Engineering at Mbarara University of Science and Technology).

The admitted students have secured places in competitive programs such as Medicine, Engineering, Law, Education, and Business at leading institutions, including Makerere University, Kyambogo University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Gulu University, and Busitema University.

The Headteacher, Mr. Buyera Moses, praised both students and staff for the achievement.

“Mbale SS continues to prove that with discipline, focused teaching, and strong parental support, our learners can compete at the national level,” he said. “This success motivates us to aim even higher as we strengthen both our science and arts departments.”

The school’s latest accomplishment further cements its reputation as one of the top-performing secondary schools in Eastern Uganda. In recent years, Mbale SS has consistently produced students who earn government sponsorships, contributing to the region’s growing pool of skilled professionals.

Parents and local leaders have also applauded the school’s performance. The Mbale District Education Officer described the results as “a beacon of hope” for other schools in the district.

One of the successful candidates, Sarah Namukose, who scored 18 points in PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) and has been admitted to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Makerere University, expressed gratitude for the support she received.

“I am grateful to God and to my teachers at Mbale SS. They pushed us beyond our limits. My dream of becoming a doctor is now closer,” she said.

Education stakeholders note that such achievements from schools outside Kampala help promote balanced national development by expanding opportunities and reducing the concentration of top-performing students in traditional urban institutions.

With this success, Mbale SS has set a strong benchmark for its current Senior Six candidates. The school has already intensified revision programs and career guidance initiatives to sustain and build on this momentum.

As university admissions continue under the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) and the Public Universities Joint Admissions Board (PUJAB), Mbale SS stands out as a source of inspiration for students nationwide.
