An armed robbery suspect was shot dead by police motorcycle patrol officers in Ssemwogerere Zone, Nakawa Division, during an operation to foil a robbery in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred at about 5:00 a.m. along Mukasa Road when a businessman and his wife were intercepted by three armed robbers as they walked through the area.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, the suspects ordered the couple to stop and lie on the ground, which they complied with.
“The robbers proceeded to steal the businessman’s mobile phone and wallet at gunpoint. As they turned their attention to the woman and demanded her phone, police officers conducting routine motorcycle patrols arrived at the scene,” Kawala said.
Upon noticing the police officers, the suspects fled, abandoning a bag containing suspected stolen property and a rifle.
Police immediately pursued the suspects. During the operation, one unidentified male suspect, believed to be about 25 years old, was shot dead.

Kawala said police recovered several exhibits from the scene, including: One SAR rifle, One bayonet, Four smartphones suspected to have been stolen, Two black shaving machines, Three black jackets, One empty cartridge, One screwdriver, One pair of red canvas shoes and One black laptop bag
The body of the deceased suspect was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Crime scene officers processed and secured the area, while statements were recorded from the victims and eyewitnesses to aid ongoing investigations.
Police have launched a manhunt for the two remaining suspects who escaped during the operation.
