Police at Jinja Road are hunting for a mother who allegedly went into hiding after pouring boiling water on her four-year-old daughter, accusing her of eating food without permission.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, identified as Zabaki Macline, a resident of K3 Zone in Kyambogo, Nakawa Division, allegedly poured hot water from a boiling kettle onto the child after discovering that rice she had cooked had been eaten.
Speaking to journalists at the Naguru Police Headquarters, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the suspect fled to an unknown location after the incident. She appealed to members of the public with information about her whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.
Kawala said the four-year-old victim is currently receiving medical treatment and is in the process of recovering.
She condemned all forms of violence against children, urging parents and guardians to use appropriate and non-violent methods of disciplining children. She also appealed to parents, guardians, and relatives to prioritize the protection and welfare of young children.
Man Arrested Over Alleged Defilement of Six-Year-Old Girl
In a related development, Kawala said Kira Road Police have arrested a 32-year-old man identified as Madibo Lewis, a resident of Bukoto, Nakawa Division, on allegations of defiling a six-year-old girl.
According to police, the suspect had visited a friend, who is the child’s mother, before allegedly committing the offence. Kawala said the incident is believed to have occurred after the child’s mother had gone to sleep.
She cautioned parents and guardians to remain vigilant as schools prepare to close for the holidays, noting that cases of violence and sexual abuse against children often increase during school breaks. She urged communities to work together to ensure children remain safe throughout the holiday period.
