Death Toll Rises to 26 After Fuel Tanker Fire in Kigoogwa Town

By Robert Segawa

The tragic aftermath of a fuel tanker fire in Kigoogwa Town, Wakiso district, has claimed 26 lives, as confirmed by local police. The incident occurred last Tuesday when a tanker, bearing registration number UAM 292Q, overturned while en route from Kampala to Gulu and subsequently ignited.

Eyewitnesses report that the explosion was fueled by youths who rushed to the scene to collect the leaking fuel. Many fell victim to the deadly flames that erupted when the spilt fuel ignited.

Kituuma Rusoke, police spokesperson, revealed during a media briefing that two additional victims were confirmed dead yesterday, bringing the total to 26. Thanks to DNA testing, authorities have successfully identified and returned 22 remains to grieving families for burial. Unfortunately, two more patients succumbed to their injuries recently.

The driver of the tanker reportedly jumped from the vehicle and attempted to warn residents of the impending danger. Rusoke assured the public that further updates would be provided as the investigation continues.
