The newly appointed Government Liaison Officer in the Office of the President, Briton Kiwanuka, has promised President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to support the fight against corruption, abuse of public resources and poor accountability in government authorities, agencies and institutions.

Kiwanuka made the commitment as he assumes his responsibilities, pledging to work with relevant government institutions to identify challenges affecting service delivery and ensure that concerns raised by communities are communicated to the appropriate authorities.
He said corruption remains a major threat to effective implementation of government programmes and called for stronger accountability at all levels of public service.
“I promise the President that I will do my part in the fight against corruption and the misuse of public resources. I will remain committed to serving Uganda and ensuring that the concerns of citizens are brought to the attention of the responsible authorities,” Kiwanuka said.
He emphasized that the fight against corruption requires collective responsibility from government officials, institutions and citizens.
Kiwanuka also pledged to promote stronger communication between government and communities, saying that his office would work to bridge gaps in the implementation of government programmes.
He urged public officials to uphold integrity, transparency and accountability, while encouraging citizens to report suspected corruption through the appropriate channels.
According to Kiwanuka, government resources are meant to improve the welfare of Ugandans and should therefore be protected from misuse, diversion and abuse.
He further pledged to work closely with ministries, departments, agencies, local authorities, communities and development partners to identify obstacles affecting government programmes and help ensure that appropriate action is taken.
Kiwanuka said his commitment to President Museveni and the people of Uganda is to serve with diligence, integrity and patriotism.
He reiterated that his role would focus on strengthening the link between government and communities while supporting efforts to ensure that government programmes deliver tangible benefits to Ugandans.
He said effective coordination between government offices and communities can help identify service delivery gaps early, allowing responsible institutions to respond before challenges become more difficult to address. He noted that citizens should feel confident that their concerns can reach the relevant authorities and receive appropriate attention.
The Liaison Officer further said that promoting accountability should not be viewed only as a disciplinary measure, but also as a way of strengthening public confidence in government institutions. He pledged to encourage constructive engagement, proper reporting and responsible use of public resources, while supporting efforts that strengthen transparency and improve the delivery of government services across the country.
He added that cooperation, communication and respect for procedures would remain important principles as he carries out his duties in support of development
