Uganda’s hospitality industry received a major boost on Thursday as the Kampala Marriott Hotel in Nsambya officially opened its doors, with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni presiding over the inauguration ceremony.
The event attracted a distinguished gathering of business leaders, government officials, investors and other invited guests, including prominent businessman and property tycoon Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia.
The launch of the five-star facility marks another significant addition to Kampala’s growing hospitality sector and is expected to strengthen the capital’s ability to accommodate high-level international visitors, corporate executives, diplomats and participants attending major conferences.
President Museveni officially inaugurated the hotel, highlighting the importance of private-sector investment in driving economic growth, creating employment opportunities and supporting the development of Uganda’s tourism industry.
Dr. Ruparelia was among several prominent figures from Uganda’s business community who attended the ceremony, reflecting the private sector’s growing interest in investments aimed at expanding the country’s commercial and service industries.
The new Marriott Hotel is expected to enhance Kampala’s portfolio of premium accommodation and modern meeting facilities, at a time when Uganda is seeking to increase its competitiveness in the business tourism and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions sector.
Beyond accommodation services, the investment is anticipated to generate employment and create opportunities for businesses operating within the broader hospitality value chain. Suppliers, transport operators, food producers, event organisers and other service providers are expected to benefit from increased activity generated by the facility.
The hotel’s establishment also demonstrates continued investor confidence in Uganda’s economy and the potential of Kampala as a destination for international business and tourism.
Government officials and private-sector representatives at the ceremony emphasised the importance of cooperation between public institutions and investors in promoting infrastructure development and expanding opportunities for Ugandans.
For Kampala, the arrival of another internationally recognised hotel brand is expected to further improve the city’s capacity to host regional and global events, while supporting Uganda’s ambitions of becoming a leading business and tourism destination in East Africa.
The inauguration therefore marked more than the opening of a new luxury hotel. It represented another step in the expansion of Uganda’s hospitality infrastructure, with business leaders such as Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia joining government officials and other stakeholders to witness the milestone.
