Police in Iganga District have arrested five suspects, including local government officials, over allegations of illegally acquiring a land title and selling public land at Nakalama Sub-County Headquarters.
The land, measuring approximately 4.45 acres, is located at the Nakalama Sub-County headquarters in Iganga District.
The arrests follow a written directive issued by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Iganga on August 28, 2026, following a complaint lodged by Nkalanguke Tom, the Iganga District Land Officer.
Those arrested are Kawanguzi Hamidu, 38, Chairperson LCIII of Nakalama Sub-County; Wakabi Deo Mia, 47, Senior Assistant County Chief and Principal Township Officer at Nakalama Sub-County; Aniswali Sadat, 29, Director of Dell-Wall International Uganda Limited; Mbudu Isima alias Museffu, 35, a member of the Area Land Committee; and Swaga Mahammed, LC1 Chairperson of Nakalama North Village.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that between April 2025 and February 2026, some public officials at Nakalama Sub-County allegedly conspired to fraudulently acquire a private land title over land belonging to the government.
According to investigators, the suspects allegedly relied on a purported land claim by a person identified as Waiswa Testo as a basis for bringing private surveyors onto the land.
Police further allege that members of the Area Land Committee were manipulated into signing partially filled land forms, which were subsequently used to process a private title over the public property.
The title was allegedly later sold to directors of Dell-Wall International Uganda Limited for between Shs130 million and Shs140 million.
Police say the title was reportedly handed over to the alleged buyers in May 2026.
However, verification by relevant authorities has reportedly established that the land covered by the title is public land belonging to the government.
Busoga East Police spokesperson ASP Michael Kasadha confirmed that the five suspects are currently being held at Iganga Central Police Station as investigations continue.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged processing of the title, the role of the Area Land Committee and other officials, as well as the alleged sale of the public land.
The investigation is also expected to establish how the alleged private title was obtained and identify any other individuals who may have been involved in the transaction.
The suspects have not been convicted of any offence, and the allegations remain subject to police investigations and the due process of law.
