The Rotary Club of Muyenga has launched a fundraising campaign to raise Shs250 million for the construction of a health centre in Mityana District, targeting to improve access to healthcare for an estimated 100,000 people.
The club president, Beatrice Lugalambi, made the announcement on August 30, 2026, on the sidelines of the Centenary Bank-sponsored Rotary Cancer Run held at the Kololo Independence Grounds, which attracted thousands of participants.
Lugalambi said the Rotary Club of Muyenga was among the first Rotary clubs to respond to the cancer campaign by purchasing and selling Rotary Cancer Run kits.
She said the club successfully sold a total of 2,784 kits, contributing to the broader campaign to raise funds for cancer awareness, prevention and treatment.
Lugalambi thanked the club’s sponsors and partners for supporting its activities, including KCCA, Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), Bukoola Chemical Industries Ltd, National Drug Authority (NDA), Movit Foundation, OQATA, Housing Finance Bank, Equity Bank, Uganda Clays Ltd, Prudential, Kampala International University (KIU), Pearl Bank and Qatar, among others.
Proposed health centre
Lugalambi, who is also the General Manager for Corporate Communications and Marketing at Centenary Bank, said the proposed facility in Mityana had been identified as the club’s signature health project for the Rotary year.
She said the club’s Projects Strategic Planning Committee selected Kavule in rural Mityana District as the location for a modern Health Centre III, following an assessment of the healthcare needs of the local population.
“As Rotarians, our mission is to establish the necessary technical infrastructure, such as health centres, to empower vulnerable communities, especially those in rural areas, to access quality healthcare services,” Lugalambi said.
She appealed to friends, well-wishers and partners of the Rotary Club of Muyenga to support the fundraising drive and help raise the Shs250 million required for the construction of the facility.
“We appeal to all our friends and well-wishers of the Rotary Club of Muyenga to join us in this noble initiative of raising Shs250 million for the construction of this signature project so that vulnerable communities in Mityana, challenged by inadequate healthcare services, can be supported,” she said.
Lugalambi said improved access to healthcare would enable members of rural communities to remain healthy and productive, increasing their ability to participate in government economic empowerment programmes and other livelihood initiatives.
She also commended the government for creating an enabling environment that allows organisations such as Rotary to extend social services to vulnerable communities in rural areas.
The proposed health centre is expected to become one of the Rotary Club of Muyenga’s flagship community projects once the required funds are secured.
