Judge Nabakooza Raises Alarm Over Deteriorating Gov’t Schools

By Namuli N. Racheal

The Entebbe Resident Judge, Flavia Nabakooza, has raised concern over the deteriorating state of government schools, calling on the government to urgently improve their infrastructure and learning conditions.

Justice Nabakooza made the remarks during celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of Kiwafu Primary School, one of the oldest government schools in Entebbe Municipality.

Nabakooza, who is a former pupil of the school, said a lot needs to be done to ensure that learners study in a favourable and conducive environment that can enhance their academic performance.

She noted that many government schools continue to face challenges related to poor infrastructure and inadequate learning facilities, which could negatively affect the quality of education.

As part of her contribution towards improving her former school, Justice Nabakooza donated 20 bags of cement and pledged to continue supporting the institution to ensure that it regains its glory.

She also urged parents to ensure that their children attend school consistently, noting that education had played a significant role in shaping her own life.

“I would not be where I am today if I had not gone to school,” she said, while encouraging parents to take their children’s education seriously.

The area Member of Parliament, Shaka Steven Gashaija, also expressed concern over the challenges facing Kiwafu Primary School, saying the institution lacks a proper toilet facility, adequate fencing and reliable water supply.

Gashaija pledged to work closely with the relevant authorities to address the challenges facing the school.

“On behalf of the National Resistance Movement, I want to confirm to you that I am going to ensure that I follow up each and every detail in the education sector in Entebbe Municipality,” Gashaija said.

Kiwafu Primary School currently has more than 500 pupils. However, several facilities, including windows and desks, are reportedly in poor condition, highlighting the need for additional investment to improve the learning environment and ensure the school’s sustainability.

The anniversary celebrations brought together former pupils, parents, teachers, local leaders and other stakeholders who called for collective efforts to preserve the legacy of the 75-year-old institution.
