Minister for Local Government Balaam Barugahara has ordered police to re-arrest Iganga General Hospital pharmacist Dr Misinde Patrick and Iganga Drug Inspector Kauma Sumaya over alleged failure to account for government medicines at the facility.
Balaam said he received a report from the Parliamentary Sectoral Committee on Health following its inspection of Iganga General Hospital, which raised concerns over the management and accountability of medicines at the facility.
According to Balaam, the two officials were arrested following the committee’s findings but were later released on police bond after the Members of Parliament had left the hospital.
The minister said he has now directed police to re-arrest the two officials so that they can explain how government medicines at the facility were managed and accounted for.
Balaam said the issue forms part of the wider crackdown on alleged corruption, mismanagement and abuse of public resources in Iganga.
The Parliamentary Health Committee had earlier called for investigations into the alleged drug accountability failures at Iganga General Hospital and asked the Iganga Resident District Commissioner to take action.
