National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters arrested on October 25 have appeared before the Kajjansi Chief Magistrate’s Court, which has further remanded them until November 16, 2026.

The supporters were reportedly arrested following a complaint by Kibuku County Member of Parliament, who allegedly reported to Entebbe Police that he had been assaulted by the group during the burial of the late Charles Matovu, the former Busiro South MP.
According to the suspects, they were violently arrested by armed security personnel shortly after the burial. They claim they were forcibly removed from taxis and boda bodas before being taken to Entebbe Central Police Station, where they were detained.

Several NUP leaders, including Wakiso District Woman MP Betty Ethel Naluyima, reportedly made efforts to secure police bond for the suspects, but their attempts were unsuccessful.
The suspects were subsequently presented before the Kajjansi Magistrate’s Court last Friday and remanded to Kigo Prison pending further court proceedings.

However, when they returned to court today, the magistrate handling their case, Happy Monica, was reportedly unavailable. They were instead presented before Chief Magistrate Olga Karungi, who ordered their continued remand until November 16.
Their lawyer, Francis Jemba, has appealed to Honourable Tom Kinobere to intervene and help secure bail for the accused, urging him to show compassion towards the young men.
Jemba appealed for their release as they await the next court proceedings.
