Haji Kazimbiraine Mahmoud Wins Significant Damages in Legal Battle Against Kinyara Sugar Company”

Counsel Kaleb Mabirizi of Ssewankambo and company advocates a lawyer to Haji Kazimbiraine Mahmoud, a sugar cane grower, has commended Praxis Conflict Centre Limited for their tireless efforts in securing justice for his clients in a long-standing case against Kinyara Sugar Company Limited.

According to Mabirizi, Haji Kazimbiraine Mahmoud entered into a contract with Kinyara Sugar Company limited for sugar cane growing, however he experienced a lot of inconsistencies and breaches with regards to how Kinyara Sugar Company Limited was treating him which prompted them to seek for legal justice. According to the ruling, Kinyara Sugar Company limited is directed to pay 61million Uganda shillings as special damages and 99 million Uganda Shillings as general damages to Haji Kazimbiraine Mahmoud, and 8% of interest annually for both special the damages from the date of these awards until payments are full.

Speaking to the media shortly after the ruling on Monday Kampala, Mabirizi praised the team at Praxis Conflict Centre for their dedication and expertise in handling the case, which resulted in a favorable ruling for his clients. He noted that the case was a significant milestone in the fight for justice and accountability in Uganda’s corporate sector.

Mabirizi expressed his gratitude to the team, led by Hon. Justice Rtd Bart Katureebe Chief justice emeritus (arbitrator), for their unwavering commitment to seeking justice for the victims. He also acknowledged the courage and resilience of his clients, who had faced numerous challenges throughout the legal process.

The case against Kinyara Sugar Company Limited had dragged on for so long, with Mabirizi’s clients alleging unfair practices and seeking compensation for damages suffered. According to Kalebu, the ruling in their favor sets a precedent for corporate accountability in Uganda and sends a strong message to companies that they will be held responsible for their actions.

Mabirizi’s applause for Praxis Conflict Centre Limited is a testament to the organization’s tireless efforts in promoting justice and human rights in Uganda.

According to Haji Kazimbiraine Mahmoud, he is overjoyed and grateful after Praxis Conflict Centre Limited helped him secure justice against Kinyara Sugar Company Limited. He says for so long, he had been fighting for fair compensation and justice against the company, which he alleged had exploited him and other sugar cane farmers. Despite numerous attempts, he had been met with silence and dismissal by the company.

But with the help of Praxis Conflict Centre Limited, Mahmoud finally received a favorable ruling, ordering Kinyara Sugar Company Limited to pay him a substantial amount in damages and compensation.

Mahmoud expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the team at Praxis Conflict Centre, saying, “I am forever grateful for their unwavering support and dedication. They believed in my case and fought tirelessly to ensure justice was served.”

He added, “I was about to give up hope, but Praxis Conflict Centre gave me a second chance. They stood up against a powerful corporation and won. I can now rebuild my life and provide for my family again.”

Asia Nantambi, a renowned advocate and partner at Ssewankambo and Company Advocates, has urged Ugandans to have faith in the country’s judicial system. She emphasizes that the courts are committed to delivering justice and upholding the rule of law. She acknowledges that the judicial system is not perfect but emphasizes that it is constantly evolving and improving.
