Deputy NUP President for Western Uganda Jolly Kyomugasho Mugisha is dead

The National Unity Platform (NUP) mourns the loss of its Deputy President for Western Uganda, Hon. Jolly Kyomugasho Mugisha, who passed away at the age of 61. Her death was confirmed by NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, known as Bobi Wine, via a heartfelt post on social media.

Hon. Mugisha had been hospitalized at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for several weeks, where she was admitted in a coma. In his announcement, Bobi Wine expressed profound sadness at her passing, recalling her as a “true Ugandan heroine” dedicated to the cause of justice, freedom, and equality.

“It’s with great sadness that I announce the passing of Hon. Jolly Mugisha. Mama Jolly has passed on this afternoon… She will always be remembered as a true Ugandan heroine,” he wrote.

Mugisha, a former NRM cadre, was a key figure in Uganda’s political landscape, particularly in the western region, where she worked tirelessly to advocate for the rights and welfare of Ugandans. Her leadership and courage earned her respect among peers and supporters alike.

On August 28, 2024, Bobi Wine and other NUP officials visited her in the Intensive Care Unit, expressing optimism about her recovery at the time. Unfortunately, her health declined, culminating in her death on September 23.

The NUP released a statement, stating, “Her demise leaves a huge vacuum in our unending struggle for power. We are deeply saddened and stand with her family in this moment of pain.”

Further details regarding her burial arrangements will be communicated following consultations with her family. Hon. Mugisha’s contributions to the party and her community will be remembered as a testament to her unwavering commitment to the pursuit of justice and equality in Uganda.
