Four Killed, 12 Injured in Fatal Bus Crash on Mubende–Kyegegwa Highway

By Robert Segawa

The death toll from a tragic road accident that occurred last evening at Biwanga along the Mubende–Kyegegwa highway has risen to four.

According to officials at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital, two of the victims an adult female and a juvenile female died on the spot, while two others were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The accident involved an Isuzu bus, registration number UBR 796N, belonging to Pokopoko Company. Preliminary reports indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle following a tyre burst, causing the bus to veer off the road and overturn.

Michael Kananura, the Community Liaison Officer for Traffic and Road Safety, confirmed that 12 other passengers sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital.

Kananura noted that despite this incident, the Easter holiday season saw relatively fewer road accidents, thanks to increased traffic checkpoints, heightened visibility, and driver sensitization efforts by traffic personnel.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Mubende Referral Hospital for postmortem examinations.

“We urge motorists to prioritize vehicle safety before setting out on their journeys. Regularly checking tyre conditions and ensuring they are within the recommended expiry dates can significantly enhance road safety,” Kananura advised.
