Over 100 DF Aspirants Nominated in Greater Masaka

Over 100 aspirants have been nominated by the Democratic Front electoral commission to participate in the party’s primaries ahead of the upcoming national general elections.

These candidates are from the districts of Masaka City, Masaka Rural, Lwengo, Lyantonde, Bukomansimbi, Ssembabule, Kalungu, Rakai, and Kyotera.

The nomination exercise, held at Patel SHAMJI Hall in Masaka City, has seen aspiring candidates ranging from Members of Parliament, city mayors, division mayors, subcounty chairpersons, councilors at all levels, and others return expression of interest forms to the electoral commission headed by Mr. Henry Lubowa.

Among the nominated candidates is Dr. Abed Bwanika, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Kimaanya-Kabonera in Masaka City, who is seeking a second term. Hon. Juliet Kakande Nakabuye, also the incumbent Member of Parliament for Masaka City, is similarly seeking a second term.

Others include Andrew Lukyamuzi Batemyetto, the Masaka District Chairperson, who is aspiring for the Bukoto Central Member of Parliament position; Moris Mukiibi, a senior journalist aspiring for Mawogola South; and Birimuye Matovu, also a senior journalist aspiring for the Kalungu West Member of Parliament seat.

Mr. Martin Lukoda, aspiring MP for Kalungu East in Kalungu District, was also nominated, among others.

Michael Nakumusana, the incumbent mayor for the Nyendo-Mukungwe division, and Nalubyaayi Talidda Zahara, the current councilor for Kimaanya to the city council in Masaka City, were both nominated to contest in the DF primaries for the Masaka City mayorship.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Abed Bwanika informed the cheerful crowd that he is committed to continuing to serve the people of Nyendo-Mukungwe to accomplish the unfinished projects.

Moris Mukiibi and Birimuye Matovu also briefed the media after their nominations, revealing why they chose the DF over all the political parties in the country.

The nomination exercise is still ongoing until the end of this month.

Today’s nomination brings the total to 1400 aspirants nominated since the exercise started in July
