Museveni Pledges New Alternative Roads, Expanded Services for Mukono at NRM Rally

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has confirmed plans to construct more alternative roads on the outskirts of Kampala, Mukono and Wakiso districts as part of a strategy to decongest traffic in the Central Business District.

Addressing supporters during an NRM presidential campaign rally at Nagalama Primary School playgrounds in Mukono District, Museveni updated residents on the progress of the Mukono–Jinja road re-tarmacking works. He also outlined plans for a new road connecting Mukono District to Wakiso District via Ssentema.

The President highlighted several completed and ongoing tarmac road projects, including Kampala–Mukono, Kayunga–Kangulumira–Jinja, and Katosi–Jinja roads, noting that improved infrastructure is key to economic growth and service delivery.

Museveni said the high number of government and private schools in Mukono District is a clear indicator of development fostered under the NRM government. He urged voters to extend the NRM’s tenure and cautioned them against what he described as diversionary opposition politicians.

He cited the presence of 220 government primary schools and 25 government secondary schools in the district, adding that government plans are underway to further increase these numbers. Museveni also pointed to 962 private primary schools and 270 private secondary schools, attributing their growth to the stable and enabling environment created by the NRM administration.

According to Museveni, the high number of private schools reflects improved household incomes and financial capability among residents, outcomes he credited to NRM-led economic policies.

The President further pledged to scale up health and education initiatives in Mukono District. He reported that safe and clean water coverage has reached 96 per cent, benefiting 591 out of the district’s 610 villages, and promised to extend services to the remaining four per cent during his next term.

On employment and industrialization, Museveni revealed that 560 factories have been established in Mukono District, significantly contributing to job and wealth creation. He acknowledged concerns over minimum wage and assured residents that government is addressing the matter.

He emphasized that the NRM government is deliberately supporting key sectors for job and wealth creation, citing the thriving industrial parks in Mukono, and called on residents to re-elect him and all NRM flag bearers to sustain the momentum.

Museveni also encouraged residents to directly participate in wealth creation programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), explaining that the initiative is aimed at alleviating poverty across communities. He urged Mukono residents to actively engage in parish SACCO meetings to guide the effective use of PDM funds.

He rallied residents to take advantage of the district’s improved infrastructure to create wealth at household and individual levels, while cautioning against opposition politicians who, he said, undermine government wealth creation programs.

The First Lady, Maama Janet Kataha Museveni, urged voters to value their votes by electing capable NRM leaders at all levels, starting with General Museveni for President. She also reminded residents to turn up in large numbers on polling day and vote overwhelmingly for the NRM.

NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), Anita Among, highlighted key development achievements in Mukono District and challenged the opposition legislator for Mukono Municipality to acknowledge the NRM government’s contributions to both the area and her personal political journey.

The rally concluded with the Mukono District NRM Chairperson, Hajji Haruna Ssemakula, reading the district memorandum.
