Police at Kira Road Division have launched a manhunt for a security guard accused of breaking into a vehicle and stealing cash and gold worth hundreds of millions of shillings.
The suspect, identified as Akena Justine, is a security guard attached to Magnum Security Group and a resident of Naguru in Nakawa Division.
According to police reports, Akena was deployed on Saturday to guard Goldex Global Uganda Limited, located along Mawanda Road. It is alleged that he opened a Toyota Noah (registration number UA 264AN) and stole a bag containing UGX 290 million in cash and approximately 900 grams of gold valued at UGX 500 million.

Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident, stating that the victim, Katuramu Maggie, 50, an administrator at Goldex Global and a resident of Ntinda, reported the theft.
“We registered a case of theft from a motor vehicle at Mawanda Road Police Station under SD REF 12/11/04/2026, and investigations commenced under CRB 14/2026,” Owoyesigyire said.
He added that Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) visited and documented the scene, reviewed CCTV footage, and recorded statements from relevant witnesses.
Preliminary findings indicate that the vehicle keys had been routinely left within the office premises on instructions from management—something the suspect is believed to have been monitoring over time.
Further intelligence reveals that on the evening of the incident, Akena and an individual identified as Jordan were driven to and from town by a driver known as Auther. They returned to the office at around 8:00 PM and found it locked.
Jordan, who had custody of the bag, reportedly chose to leave it in the vehicle due to fears of theft along Mawanda Road. It is believed this decision created the opportunity that Akena later exploited.
Police say efforts are underway to apprehend Akena and locate Jordan, who is also wanted for questioning in connection with the case.
