Uganda’s luxury tourism industry has received a major boost with the opening of Paradise Island Resort, a multi-billion-shilling destination developed by the Ruparelia Group under businessman Sudhir Ruparelia.

Located on a secluded 19-acre private island on Lake Victoria, the resort is positioning itself as an exclusive leisure destination for tourists, honeymooners, corporate executives, conference delegates and holidaymakers seeking a high-end escape.
The resort is accessible by speedboat from Speke Resort Munyonyo, turning the journey across Lake Victoria into part of the overall guest experience.
Paradise Island combines modern hospitality facilities with the island’s natural landscape. Its accommodation portfolio includes executive villas, deluxe cottages, cliffhanger cottages overlooking the lake and standard cottages, with the units designed to offer privacy and expansive lake views.
One of the resort’s most distinctive features is its man-made white-sand beach, which creates a tropical coastal atmosphere despite the destination being located on Lake Victoria.

Guests can also access an infinity swimming pool overlooking the lake, restaurants serving local and international cuisine, bars, wellness and spa facilities, fitness amenities, conference spaces and private lounges.
For visitors seeking outdoor activities, the resort offers experiences including speedboat excursions, kayaking, paddle boarding, nature walks, bird watching, fishing and guided boat cruises.
The resort has also incorporated environmental considerations into its design, retaining much of the island’s indigenous vegetation while integrating landscaped gardens, mature trees and walking trails.
The development comes as Uganda seeks to diversify its tourism offering beyond wildlife safaris, national parks and mountain gorilla tourism. Industry players believe luxury destinations such as Paradise Island could help the country attract high-spending visitors while encouraging longer stays.
The investment is also expected to create employment opportunities in hospitality, transport, catering, security, maintenance, landscaping, marine services and tourism operations, while supporting local suppliers.
Paradise Island adds to the Ruparelia Group’s hospitality portfolio, which includes Speke Resort Munyonyo, Speke Apartments, Kabira Country Club, Forest Cottages, Dolphin Suites and Bukoto Heights Apartments.

The new resort is also expected to complement Speke Resort Munyonyo by providing an exclusive retreat for conference delegates, dignitaries and other visitors seeking privacy before or after major events.
Tourism experts say the development fits into Uganda’s broader strategy of increasing tourism earnings by diversifying products and encouraging visitors to stay longer and spend more.
Beyond accommodation, Paradise Island has been positioned for weddings, private celebrations, executive retreats, wellness holidays, family vacations and exclusive corporate events.
The resort’s opening represents another significant investment in Uganda’s tourism sector and comes as international demand grows for distinctive luxury experiences in natural settings.
With its lake views, luxury accommodation, leisure facilities and island setting, Paradise Island is positioning itself as a new high-end tourism destination in Uganda and a potential competitor to established luxury resorts across the region.
