Mystery as Toddler Dies After Being Left at Kiwamirembe Catholic Church Restaurant

By Robert Segawa

Police in Kajjansi have launched a manhunt for an unidentified woman suspected of abandoning the body of a two-year-old boy at a restaurant within Kiwamirembe Catholic Church.

According to police, the woman arrived at Kiwamirembe Catholic Church at about 6:00 p.m., claiming she had come to pray. She later entered the church restaurant carrying a young boy wrapped in clothes and ordered a cup of tea.

Police say the woman asked a restaurant attendant to watch over the child while she allegedly went to a nearby shop to buy diapers. However, she never returned.

The Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said that at around 7:00 p.m., one of the restaurant attendants checked on the child and discovered that he was unresponsive.

“Preliminary examination of the body indicated that the male juvenile may have been strangled, as the neck appeared unusually loose and could turn in different directions,” Owoyesigyire said.

The child’s body was taken to KCCA Mortuary in Mulago for a postmortem examination as police continue investigations to identify the deceased and trace the suspect.

Police have appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to report to the nearest police station.
