Nambeshe Takes Over as NUP Acting President, Replacing Lina Zedriga

By Kabuye Ronald

National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has appointed the party’s Deputy President for the Eastern Region, John Baptist Nambeshe, as the acting president of the opposition party, replacing Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru.

The announcement was made through Bobi Wine’s X account, where he commended Dr. Zedriga for her leadership during the past four months.

“For four months, Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru has been acting President of our Party. During this period, she has steered the party well and kept the revolution alive. We’re all very grateful for her dedication and service,” Bobi Wine wrote.

He said Dr. Zedriga’s tenure had come to an end and announced Nambeshe as her successor.

“As her tenure comes to an end, I am pleased to announce that Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe, Deputy President Eastern Region, will be taking over as acting President of the National Unity Platform,” he added.

Bobi Wine also called on party leaders and supporters to rally behind Nambeshe as he assumes the new role.

“I wish him well and request all leaders and comrades to accord him the necessary support,” he said.

Nambeshe, who serves as NUP’s Deputy President for the Eastern Region, assumes the acting presidency while Bobi Wine remains outside the country.

Before leaving Uganda, Bobi Wine appointed Dr. Zedriga to oversee the party’s affairs in an acting capacity. With the latest leadership changes, Nambeshe will now oversee the day-to-day operations of Uganda’s largest opposition party as it continues its political activities under his stewardship.
