Pumpkins and Watermelons politics, the must learn lessons

By Ndawula Ronald

Then Satan entered Judas Iscariot one of the twelve disciples of Jesus.

He went to the chief priest and officials, they discussed how he will betray Jesus and they were delighted.

After jesus was hanged Judas felt the guilt and took back the 30 pieces of silver to the chief priest and hanged himself.

The money was used to buy a burial ground for the dead foreigners since it was believed to be blood money.

Have been following and admittedly been admiring Mao’s journey, and life on the surface.

His sense of humour, satire, command of languages, knowledge and eloquence made him my role leader for years but we subscribed to different parties.

He is the only person who made me regret why I didn’t go to school at the right time.

This started changing when he started exhibiting hatred to my tribe around the death of the late Speaker Jacob Oulanya when he opted to turn a sad story of the late Speakers death into a tribal political conflict.

To me, it seems by this time Chairman Mao had already negotiated his silver with the Chief Priest.

This is evidenced by the time the portfolio of Min of Justice and Constitutional affairs that has been preserved for him for this long coupled by the positive Muhoozis tweets about the DP President.

I never expected Hon Mao to be a sellout till the other day!

I trusted his original utterances, words  and impugned integrity.

I thought he meant what he used to say, and believed in his mission.

I know Mao will come out swinging with analogies in defence of his betrayal to the Democratic Party and the opposition he has led and served for this long.

I know he has for good lost the stature and credibility, he will never be confident enough to face those he has disappointed in opposition.

He has benefited as an individual but his actions will go beyond him to haunt his children.

Hon.Min Mao will never move with his original charisma and audacity.

Sell outs like Judas have momentary satisfaction and if they don’t  commit suicide they become reclusive and solitary even with the ransom in their pockets.

In this marriage, the groom, President Museveni is the ultimate winner.

Hon Mao must also know that Museveni, just as the man with many wives , if you don’t meet the standards of the previous wives you naturally wither like petals of a flower in a drought.

Nakiwala Kiyingi, Aggrey Awori have  good stories to tell about this experience.

The worst bit is, sellouts are left on a cliff and have no fall back position.

The worst case scenario is going to happen when Dp President Mao is going to be used to perform constitutional feats unpalatable to Ugandans for the benefit of his new husband NRM.

Secondly , he is going to seek to settle scores with Baganda who are going to incessantly torment and voice their disgust to his action and his betrayal to the democratic party.

Hon.Min. Mao if I may stand in his shoes for a minute, i sympathise with his position.

Much as he had  the oldest functional  political party to head, he was also annoyed by other leaders like Nambooze,  Lukwago and Mpuuga who left him a “shell party” to join a newer National Unity Platform of Bobiwine and Lukwagos’ joining of Besigyes FDC.

This to Mao seemed a betrayal hinged on tribal sentiments and was left at a junction of indecision.

In reality, the move by Lukwago and Namboze required Mao also to move somewhere to pay the betraying DP colleagues in a similar currency.

He was held back by his precarious position as the party President.

Mao realised he could not follow suit to join NUP with others yet he attributed his DP failures to the speedy sprouting and emergency of NUP which sucked up all that had remained of DP.

Mao realised that he had no potential credible coalition he could muster to cause pain to the people who had left him a shell party apart from collaborating with NRM.

Hon.Mao figured out how he could pull out this stunt and remain credible but he was left with no choice.

At no time Norbert Mao, could see himself working under Bobi Wine who has little experience on the political arena but as luck may have it, he is the leader of the trending opposition party a position that should be held by DPs Mao.

He subsequently subjectively negotiated his way and his secretary General to pay back in kind the group who had out witted him by joining NUP and FDC.

Hon.Maos action and his counterparts who joined NUP and FDC and accusing themselves to be pumpkins and watermelons should teach Ugandans and people else where about the gist of Political ideology the world over.

Harold Lasswels’ amusing definition of what is politics was taught to me at Makerere as “a study of determining who gets what, when and how”.

When Nambooze, Nabukenya, Mpuuga and Lukwago joined NUP it didn’t amount to betrayal but when Mao joins NRM is trouble, I believe all these people are playing political games.

My friend the Proprietor of Sir Appolo Kaggwa schools taught me a timeless lesson on a tour at six flags amusement park in virginia USA when he said , ” when youre not in possession,  be in position”.

The other MPs joined NUP aand positioned themselves and became MPs and are earning quality proceeds for their families and they want Mao to stay on the sidelines to chew the curds of a dying party on the verge of extinction!

Much as he took long to decide and a bit too late but it was the only and best alternative available for him to stay relevant instead of being swallowed to obscurity and rendered useless as chief of a dying party.

The proceeds of this sellout unlike in Judas Escariot case, are going to benefit Mao and his few cronies and DP will go to the dogs because I dont see him relinquishing the Presidency of the Democratic party without a fight.

In  nutshell, Pumpkins and watermelons betrayed the opposition for silver.
