One person dies in the UPDF plane crush at Entebbe

One person has been pronounced dead in the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) Air force plane crush on Thursday afternoon in Entebbe near Spennah beach.

The deceased has been identified as Captain Caroline Busingye which leaves another unidentified soldier fighting for his life at unidentified hospital where he/ she was rushed for medical attention.

“It is with sadness that we announce the passing on of Capt Caroline Busingye after she was involved in a plane crush today Afternoon in Entebbe. We commiserate with the family of the late and the UPDF Airforce fraternity during this very difficult moment. MAGRIP.” announced the UPDF spokesperson Hon. Brigadier Flavia Byekwaso.

Brigadier Byekwaso had earlier on in the afternoon tweeted about the unfortunate incident.

“Today afternoon at about 2:15pm a jet ranger piloted by two cadet trainees on a mutual training flight came down immediately after takeoff near Lido beach. The two were rushed to hospital to ascertain their health. Our aviation team is on ground to investigate the mishap.” she tweeted

It should be noted that this is the second UPDF plane crush in a period of almost a week with the first incident happening in Somalia where four soldiers were hurt in the same type of plane.

it should be also recalled that in 2018, the same type of plane crushed in Kiwaawu, Butambala district claiming the life of one of the senior UPDF pilot Maj. Naomi Kalungi and a cadet pilot Benon Wakola
