Double Standards: Salaam Musumba, MP Mwijukye Voted in POA, Nandala Administration FDC Elections.

By Our reporters

As the biblical scripture says in the book of Ecclesiastes chapter 9:4-5 that a live dog is better than a dead lion, the same reached well with the two senior Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leaders Proscovia Night Salaam Musumba the vice chairperson for eastern region and the Buhweju constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Francis Mwijukye when they resolved not to remain politically lifeless by moving to participate in the just concluded FDC party structure elections under the party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat and Secretary General Nathan Nandala Mafabi- Najjanankumbi administration, which they have time and again criticized as sham and fraudulent.

The dual is allied to the former party president Dr. Kiiza Besigye’s camp whose relationship is currently not well with the Najjanankumbi administration which they accuse of among other things, mismanaging the party with citation of the elections that they insist lacks credibility.

Earlier this month, Salaam Musumba with other heretical friendly allied members; Ibrahim Nganda Ssemujju, the party spokesperson also MP for Kira Municipality, Buhweju constituency MP Francis Mwijukye, deputy Kampala city lord mayor Doreen Nyanjura, among others, held a press conference at the Fairway Hotel in Kampala under which they called for disbandment of the party electoral commission which they said was no longer serving party members interests.

The same group had first held a meeting with a section of party members at Sharing Hall-Nsambya in Kampala on 17th July 2023, under which proclamations were made by themselves never to take part in the same elections, vowing to move around the country demobilizing members from participation.

However, it has now emerged from the electoral results that Salaam Musumba was elected the FDC Bugabula South secretary after being nominated by the area party chairperson Fred Kabaale.

“The election which brought Salaam Musumba started from the zonal level to parish, sub county, constituency upto the district” Kabaale said.

Kabaale confirmed to this website that two secretaries were elected under his jurisdiction, Musumba and another one representing the men as a requirement by their party constitution.

When this website contacted Salaam Musumba to comment on the matter, she neither picked up nor returned our frantic calls.

Francis Mwijukye was according to the results, elected the FDC chairperson for Buhweju constituency following his successful nomination through the process.

Mwijukye’s election was confirmed by the Buhweju district FDC party chairperson Deo Tumwine in an interview with this website, saying he was voted in absentia.

We were also unable to get a comment from Mwijukye as our calls could not go through because he was reportedly out of the country by press time.

It also emerged that, Doreen Nyanjura the Kampala city deputy lord mayor lost her seat of Kyenjojo FDC district secretary for women to one Rose Kemigisa who was elected after she did not present self in the process, according to the electoral results seen by this website.

Kemigisa’s replacement of Nyanjura was confirmed by the FDC Kyenjojo district chairperson James Kats Kalijja.

Some party members from Buhweju and Bugabula accused Mwijukye and Musumba of playing to the gallery with double standards by discouraging them to keep away from the elections that they were secretly part of.

The election which started on 21 July 2023 and ended on 18th august 2023, culminated from the National Council, the 2nd supreme largest party organ resolution of May and July 28th  2023, giving them a leeway.

The notice published by the party Electoral Commission chairperson Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda in the Daily Monitor newspapers dated 16th  August 2023, indicates that elections will be concluded on 6th October during the delegates conference at UMA Hall in Kampala.

The delegates conference according to the party constitution is attended by the FDC district chairpersons, district secretaries, district secretaries for mobilization, district youth chairpersons, district woman chairpersons, constituency chairpersons, constituency secretaries, LC 5 chairpersons, MPs and eminent members such as distinguished elders.
